Backyard Zanjero is a small, family-owned business based in Mesa, Arizona. Founded by Dwight Bond, a lifelong water steward with more than 30 years of flood-irrigation experience, our team is passionate about preserving Arizona’s most valuable resource — water.
What began as an idea in 2021 became a patented product line after three years of design, testing, and refinement. Today, Backyard Zanjero proudly provides reliable, automated flood-irrigation systems built specifically for Arizona homes.
Our team combines decades of hands-on irrigation experience with modern technology. Dwight oversees daily operations, Lisa manages the office, Richard and Amanda lead advertising, Justin and Sara handle data monitoring, and Billy, Mario, and crew handle installations. Our IT department — Daniel, John, and Gary — keep every system running smoothly.
Together, we’re a team of Arizonans helping Arizonans use water responsibly.
Backyard Zanjero builds and installs patented automation devices that make flood irrigation effortless. Each system opens and closes your flood-irrigation valve automatically — on time, every time — based on the schedule you set online or directly at the device.
Our products eliminate late-night valve runs, reduce water waste, and solve the growing problem of retired private irrigators. Models range from simple manual scheduling units to fully automated, app-controlled systems powered by solar energy.
Backyard Zanjero devices are already installed in multiple Arizona irrigation districts, including SRP, RWCD, Santan Irrigation, Suburban Irrigation, and New Magma Irrigation & Drainage District.
To build and provide smart irrigation devices that help homeowners manage their flood-irrigation water responsibly and sustainably — using local resources, modern innovation, and a deep respect for Arizona’s water heritage.
Flood irrigation has been part of Arizona’s landscape since the early 1900s, when farmers diverted water from their fields to surrounding homes. As neighborhoods developed, many of these systems remained, carrying forward a tradition that still sustains thousands of Valley yards today.
The owner of Backyard Zanjero has been involved in every phase of irrigation for nearly three decades. Recognizing the 24/7 nature of flood-irrigation schedules, Dwight Bond set out to design a device that could open and close irrigation valves automatically — no matter the hour and Backyard Zanjero was born.
SRP – Salt River Project
Flood irrigation in Central Arizona has roots tracing back to the ancient canal systems built by the ancestors of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa and Gila River Indian Communities, some spanning over 500 miles. These early systems inspired the modern SRP canal network that serves the Valley today.
In 1902, the National Reclamation Act enabled large-scale irrigation projects across the West, leading to the formation of the Salt River Valley Water Users’ Association in 1903. By 1917, SRP took over operation of the canal system — a network that now delivers about 850,000 acre-feet of water annually to agricultural, residential, and commercial users.
RWCD – Roosevelt Water Conservation District
Founded in 1917, the Roosevelt Water Conservation District serves roughly 40,000 acres in southeast Maricopa County. Originally named the Auxiliary Eastern Canal Landowners’ Association, it was renamed RWCD in 1924 and continues to deliver flood-irrigation water to homes and farms across the East Valley.
